1985년 밥 겔도프(Bob Geldof)의 주도 하에 영국 출신 뮤지션을 중심으로 결성된

Band Aid의 대표적인 곡입니다.
Band Aid 는 80년대 에티오피아를 비롯해 아프리카에 계속된 가뭄과 기근으로 죽어 가는 난민이 속출하자 이들을 도울 방법으로 모색된 밴드입니다.
곡이 발표되자마자 5주 연속 차트 정상에 오른 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' 는

당대 최고 뮤지션들의 목소리들을 들을 수 있다는 즐거움 외에도, 크리스마스에 어울리는 화합의 메시지를 취할 수 있다는 장점이 있었습니다.
이 행사에 자극을 받아 미국에서도 USA For Africa를 결성했고, 'We Are The World' 를 탄생시켰습니다.
